For Aspiring Photographers

A few times a week I get questions from new photographers about lenses, business, marketing, etc. While I try to get to all of them, often my own business and kids get in the way. A colleague of mine whom I respect both her artistry and her business posted a wonderfully written article to help aspiring photographers get started. It has a ton of great information in it, more than I could type in any email. It has a lot of information I wish I had known when I first started out and hopefully it can help you too!

Starting a Photography Business

Happy reading!

Katie Welsh Photography closed June 25 -July 1st

The studio will be closed June 25th through July 1st with very limited access to email/voicemail. If you have already reserved your newborn slot and deliver while I’m away, please call me and I’ll get you on the schedule. All other calls and emails will be returned on July 2nd.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer!

Out of office

I will be traveling Thursday – Saturday and will be returning emails and voicemails when I return. One of my best friends from college is getting married on the beach, so fun! She’s asked me to take pictures of the ceremony so I’ll post a few when I get back. If something is urgent, I’ll be checking voicemail.

Just a scheduling update as well…May and June are full. I have a few newborn slots left towards the end of June but all other sessions are booked. If you’d like to be put on the waiting list, let me know!

New product line…

My clients deserve the very best so I’m always on the look out for the finest quality products available in the market. I am very excited to introduce a new line of products to our boutique. Each product is handcrafted by artisans using Japanese bookbinding fabrics and Swiss ribbons. They offer a new level of sophistication in design and presentation.

first up, folios. An alternative to framing, these folios open up to display on your desk or bookshelf and then beautifully fold into a book for safe keeping when not on display.

next, image boxes. Do you want to preserve all of the images from your session but not looking for an album? These image boxes are a beautiful way to safely store your portraits for many, many years.boxes

And finally, the album. This one is off to its new home but I’ll have a sample for you to see as well. It’s hard to even find the words of how gorgeous this album is. It includes a matching presentation box and the craftsmanship is simply amazing.

All of these products are handcrafted using the finest archival materials to be passed down for generations. Can’t wait to show these to you at your sessions!

The perfect model – Minneapolis Newborn Studio Portraits

Meet L. He was really the PERFECT model. The first newborn in the new studio and a complete angel. I’m so excited about the gorgeous natural light, rustic floors, and all the different ideas I can finally execute now that we’ve moved in!

This is going to be a huge share since it is representative to what a studio session would look like compared to on location. Both will still be available. Studio offers come fun backgrounds, baskets, etc. On location is great for incorporating your home into the pictures and also of course the comfort of having me come to you. Both types of sessions offer the classic posed shots on blankets, with or without the little hats and parent and sibling portraits.

Seriously, L was sooo darn cute…picture overload ahead

Thank you so much K for letting me play with little L today. It was so much fun chatting with you and he is just perfect!

The big announcement…the studio

Those that are on facebook already know and some of you may have suspected but I’m very excited to announce that we moved into a new natural light studio in Hopkins! I will still be doing the majority of my sessions on location but now you have the choice! I’ll also be offering some different looks in studio for newborns that frankly are just too darn heavy to carry on location (samples images to come from the newborn model call). I’m excited for this new phase and new offering for my clients.

James modeled for a few sample shots and Lindsey ended up jumping in to so she could show off her new Spring dress from Momi Boutique! Love, love, love her clothing.
